The threat posed by cyber-crime continues to trend upward. While crimes committed by external parties such as targeted cyber-attacks escalate, data breaches committed by internal parties are also on the rise. Damage caused by internal parties is greater in terms of monetary loss than that inflicted by external parties, on a per incident basis. Furthermore, data breaches by internal parties are rarely disclosed, so the numbers that are made public represent only a small fraction of the true problem. On top of the difficulty of taking counter measures, tackling internal fraud is an essential management challenge for many companies and organizations.

ObserveIT, an insider threat management software solution to be provided by Macnica Networks, tracks and records the system operations of users and employs User Behavior Analytics (UBA) to visualize the risk of internal fraud. With its introduction, customers will be able to easily and efficiently detect users who have malicious intentions. Letting users know that their operations are being recorded will improve their awareness of security and help them stop short of conducting malicious operations.
The ObserveIT recording function of a user activities, such as exporting to USB device, or to system management tools, does not have any effect on the operating system or its logged or unlogged applications. Recorded data is first converted to metadata that can be analyzed, after which ObserveIT’s UBA then scores and automatically analyzes each user operation to identify the users who are at risk of committing internal fraud. Scoring rules can be modified, added, or deleted according to the customer’s environment.
In addition, administrators can monitor users who have been identified as being at risk of committing internal fraud in real time, via the ObserveIT’s dashboard. With this functionality, administrators can notify and educate users whose suspicious operations have been detected, thereby preventing internal fraud before it occurs. Using the dashboard, administrators can conduct detailed searches of the tracked and recorded system operations. Even if a data breach cannot be avoided, the causes can be promptly investigated.

In addition to this security solution, Macnica Networks will also offer the ObserveIT System Building Service. With this service, Macnica Networks will work with customers to understand their network security needs and proposes a security package covering every step from policy development through to product implementation.

Mike McKee, Chief Executive Officer at ObserveIT, made the following comments:
"We are proud and honored to be partnering with Macnica Networks to bring people risk mitigation solutions to the Japanese marketplace. Macnica Networks is highly respected throughout the world, and is recognized for its leadership in delivering powerful and innovative cyber security technology to its customers. Together, through our new partnership, we will help companies throughout Japan be more secure. We will do this by protecting them from accidental and malicious actions taken by privileged users, vendors, contractors and business users on their networks that put their organizations at risk."
