Macnica Networks Corp., which provides network devices and security solutions (headquarters: 1-5-5 Shin-Yokohama, Kohoku-ku, Yokohama, Japan; President: Jun Ikeda; hereinafter "Macnica Networks"), and the US company Finisar Corporation (headquarters: 1389 Moffett Park Drive, Sunnyvale, CA 94089 CEO: Michael Hurlston; hereinafter “Finisar” ) are pleased to announce a Distribution agreement. Under the terms of agreement, Macnica has started marketing, selling and supporting the Finisar optical transceiver products for network infrastructure facilities.

The use of open technology for network infrastructure facilities in data centers, core routing and high performance computing connectivity, is spreading throughout the world, as represented by Facebook’s OCP (Open Compute Project). Unlike conventional models in which hardware, OS, applications, etc. have been provided in a comprehensive manner, with open networks the optimal hardware, OS, applications, can be selected to build a suitable infrastructure according to the business environment system, granting potential for ease of maintenance, reduction of power consumption, and suppression of investment costs.
The implementation of optical transceivers, which are capable of interconversion for transmission and reception of electrical and optical signals, promises to be extremely effective and helpful for our customers. This is a promising development because it optimizes the customer’s environment rather than just being a product from a switch or server vendor.

Finisar, which produces the optical transceivers that Macnica Networks has started to promote and sell, is a specialized manufacturer of optical transceivers that has been leading the optical communication industry for 30 years since its establishment in 1988. Recognized for their reliability, performance, supply system and cost merit, Finisar’s optical transceivers are utilized in the products of major switch and server vendors around the world. This is because Finisar is able to provide products made with cutting-edge technology through a stable quality and supply system utilizing their own technology and facilities to carry out manufacturing of the main components that form optical transceivers (IC, light emitters, light receptors), as well as their packaging, final assembly and testing, based on a vertical integration strategy; something that no other optical transceiver vendors can replicate. And having some of the world’s largest mass-production factories for optical transceivers, located in Malaysia and China, Finisar is meeting the growing demand for optical transceivers due to the rapid expansion in traffic.

The Macnica Group, to which Macnica Networks belongs, has operated as a technology trading company for over 10 years, providing optical transceivers incorporating Finisar’s state-of-the-art technology to major communication system vendors in Japan and other clients through subsidiaries dealing in semiconductors and electronic components. Now that Macnica Networks has begun marketing these products, we will provide even more customers –including data centers, communication carriers and content providers– with optical transceivers ideally suited to their infrastructure systems.
